How we test
For every app we cover, we create an account and use it across several days. We evaluate conversation quality, long-term memory, voice and avatar features, customization options, the free tier and pricing, and how the app handles your privacy. Our scores come from this hands-on testing, not from press releases.
How we stay independent

Our editorial process
Every review starts the same way: we create a fresh account on the app, set up a companion from scratch, and use it daily for several days — text conversations on a consistent set of topics, memory checks that test whether details from earlier chats resurface later, voice calls where the app supports them, and a full pass through the customization and privacy settings. Scores are assigned against the same six-factor rubric for every app, and we revisit reviews when apps ship significant changes. When we compare two apps head-to-head in our comparisons, both get the same conversations and the same tests, so the result reflects the apps rather than our mood on the day.
Accuracy, corrections and updates
This category changes fast — apps rework pricing, add features and tighten policies constantly. We deliberately avoid quoting exact prices and message limits in our articles because they go stale quickly; instead we describe free tiers and subscriptions qualitatively and encourage readers to check the app’s current pricing page before paying. If you spot something we’ve gotten wrong or that’s gone out of date, we genuinely want to know: tell us via the contact page and we’ll review and correct it. Significant updates are reflected in the article itself, and our dated titles (“2026”) tell you which season of the category each piece describes.
